On February 28 1833, Lyn's paternal 3rd great grandparents, William (1795-1891) and Marion (McGilchrist) (1793-1866) ROBERTSON from Penicuik Scotland accompanied by their six young children, sailed from the Port of Leith Scotland on the SS Thomas bound for Hobart Town, Van Diemens Land. On August 10 1833 the SS Thomas arrived at Hobart Town where William Robertson established a tailoring business. During his time in Hobart Town William Robertson, who was part of the Port Phillip Association with Batman, Fawkner and Wedge, was encouraged by his friend John Pascoe Fawkner to go to the New Settlement (later to become Melbourne) in the then Port Phillip District of the Colony of New South Wales, which Fawkner considered would offer far greater opportunities for William than in what was then Van Diemen's Land. William established a tailoring business in the New Settlement near the northwest corner of Collins and Elizabeth Streets from where in 1837 he settled on 5000 acres in the Port Phillip District of The Colony of New South Wales, later to become Gisborne/New Gisborne in what was later to become the Colony of Victoria. In 1840, the Robertson's established a homestead which they were to name Wooling, making "The Robertsons" early Victorian pioneers.
